Week 8 + 9: Easter Half Term (25th March - 7th April)

One of my tasks, as graphic designer for the end of year show, was to create a final, cleaned up version of the logo that the team had agreed upon in last weeks meeting. The chosen logo can be seen in the image below. I sent the image in the chat here to confirm with everyone that this was the chosen idea and that this would be going ahead.

To show the creation of the logo from start to end, I have produced a video timelapse below - please enjoy.

I'm very happy with how this turned out and I'm actually quite proud of myself for producing this at it's going to be used everywhere for the end of year show. To allow my team to gain access and use the logo, I sent the marketing team jpeg and png versions of it. This can be seen in the screenshot below.

On the morning of 5th April, having just received an email from Tom the night before confirming the date for our online interview, it was vitally important that I now completed all the appropriate preproduction work for his filming. I made myself a list to help myself through this process – this can be seen below.

The first task on my list is to respond back to Tom’s email. What I need to do here is send him the contributor PDF for him to sign and re-send all questions that he will be answering. To do this, I saved the word doc contributor form, that I had previously created in preparation for this moment, as a PDF and attached it to the email. I then looked back in my notebook at the questions I had prepared for him and attached these to the email too. The email response I sent to him can be seen below.

The next task on my list is to produce the production schedule. This will be fairly simple as it is a Zoom call, but nevertheless, it is an important document that will help me to understand what I am doing and well.

Despite having said this, I have decided, as of writing this, that it is probably best that I do the gantt chart first. This is because the gantt chart is the ‘least descriptive’ document, the production schedule is fairly descriptive (in terms of the specifics of the production) and the call sheet is the most descriptive in the fact it has the most information. It makes sense to do it in this order, so this is what I will be doing.

The final gantt chart can be seen below. The only adjustments that needed to be made was the addition of Tom’s interview date and extending the logging footage date so that I could log Tom’s footage and timestamp the interview for the different questions he answers (or any additional particular points I want to ensure that I include.

Having completed this, I then moved onto the production schedule. This can be seen below. Although it’s very simple, the details on this document are very important as they essentially answer any questions I may have about the actual production of it. A particular point that I would like to make about this is the use of the words ‘Pin Tom’ in the second activity. This is very important because if I do not pin Tom in the Zoom meeting, my camera will also be recorded and Zoom will constantly switch between our cameras throughout the recording. This would ruin the recording as I would no longer be able to use half the footage, and it’s likely that his sentences would be interrupted by my face appearing on screen. This is something that I had learnt in my problem solving stage, so this shows how my understandings and what I have learnt before production, are helping to interrupt my approach in the production stage.

I then filled in the call sheet as much as I could. I could not finish it entirely because I needed Tom’s phone number on the form, so I need to wait for the consent form to come back as this will be included on there.

I had now done everything I could do in preparation for Tom’s interview.

I decided that a good use of todays time left would be to compile all the BTS videos I had taken on my phone of me shooting the film scene on Monday into one video. This was important to do as I currently had loads of random videos – if it was edited in order to watch as a YouTube link on my website, this would provide me with some great evidence. The final compilation can be seen below – it discusses problems I encountered and my own running commentary with certain decisions made too.

This is similar to my logging evidence that I edited yesterday – this video can be seen below. I discuss the thoughts I have when going through the footage I recorded with Jolene.
