Week 10: 8th-12th April
Today was the first official day back from Easter break. I began the day with preparing myself for what I needed to do. This included looking back upon all the work I have completed and reassessing myself with where I’m at. After 2 weeks time away from a routine like college, it’s a great time to reset and prepare for the next, and final, half term.

The current situation is that I do still need to write up around my preproduction work on the website, and in fact, there are still some very final additions to add to the preproduction page because I am still waiting on Tom’s signature for the consent form and phone number for the call sheet. I’m not too worried about this because if I can focus tonight’s efforts towards finishing the write up, I am just waiting on something that I can simply slot into the page and say its finished – which is fine.
Looking at production, as I mentioned, I am still waiting to film with Tom, and that has now been organised to happen over Zoom this Friday. I’m really annoyed with the inability to film with Tom as I was this close to meeting him in person and filming in a professional environment. Nevertheless, having Tom on a Zoom call is far better than no Tom at all, so I can’t complain on that end – it is still a real shame though. The images below show the conversations I have had with Tom over the past 2 weeks. Essentially what happened is that Tom is very busy and all dates I had offered throughout Easter he could not do/took a long time to respond to my emails too (with follow up emails) so by the time he responded it was too close, so I thought of a different location to use (as the original one was only available during Easter), and the one day he suggests he can do, I have no possible availability for getting down there – particularly as we have now since sold one of our cars meaning there’s even less of an opportunity. I felt bad for him at this moment in time because I understand how compliant he has been with the ‘roundabout’ scenario we have been on, and with my deadline approaching quickly I couldn’t leave it any longer, so I decided that logistically, Zoom was the appropriate choice.

To add to production, another problem I have had is trying to get a interview with Eddie. I spoke to him last night and he said that he will give it another go and try it again – which is really good and I can only hope that he is okay with it this time as I would really like to get him in. I have decided that at the end of college today, I am going to book out all the equipment needed up until Friday morning, giving me 2 days worth of opportunity. I have done this to essentially try and catch him on a good day!
Regarding what I had planned for today, I looked at my action plan and figured that now was the right time to begin the post production process. I then spent the duration of the day organising the files, creating the sequence, and producing my first rough cut for scene 1. To find more about this, go to the post production page.
During the start of my cutting process, I decided that it would be a good idea to keep things organised on my sequence timeline, as this would make it easy down the end of the road, when the cut is near to the end, to make any changes I may need. Therefore, an idea I had was to group similar clips together, so that can effects can be applied to them all at the same time. However, the problem I found was that there were 2 options to choose from which both did similar things and I didn’t know which one to choose. I knew what nesting was, as I have used this before, but subsequences I have never heard of, and it’s important that I understand what both options are before making my conscious decision. Therefore, to overcome the problem, I used the video below to learn more about them both.
For the rest of the week, I continued on my editing journey! All of the post production stage can be seen here.
